신화의 주체들이 돌아왔다.
그러나 그들은 더 이상 신화를 말하지 않는다.
오늘의 브랜드를 걸친 채, 기호의 옷을 입고 다시 태어난다.
그들의 귀환은 숭고의 회복이 아니라, 기호의 과잉에 대한 역설적 증언이다.
김형우는 고전 조각의 신체 위에 오늘의 소비 문화를 덧씌운다.
그는 '형상'이 가진 본래의 무게를,
'이미지'라는 가벼움으로 치환시킨다.
이 치환은 단순한 패러디가 아니라,
실재(the real)와 시뮬라크르(simulacrum) 사이의 경계를 묻는 미학적 실험이다.
이제 조각은 '존재'를 표상하는 것이 아니라, '기호'를 재연하는 기계가 된다.
극사실(hyperreal)의 표면은 완벽에 가까운 재현을 통해 역설적으로 낯섦(unheimlich)을 유발한다.
그 낯섦은 현실을 닮은 이미지가 실재를 대체하고 있음을,
우리가 이미지에 의해 ‘존재’를 인식하고 있다는 사실을 드러낸다.
이제 정체성은 더 이상 본질이 아니다.
푸코가 말했듯, 정체성은 주체화의 기술이고, 권력의 산물이다.
우리는 스스로의 ‘존재’를 증명하기 위해, 끊임없이 이미지를 생산하고 소비한다.
'나는 생각한다, 고로 존재한다'는 오래된 명제는
'나는 보여진다, 고로 존재한다'는 비극적 역설로 바뀌었다.
《협찬: 오늘을 입다》는 고전의 신체가 오늘의 기호를 걸치는 장면을 통해 묻는다.
실재는 어디에 있는가?
정체성은 누가 규정하는가?
나는 지금, 누구의 시선에 의해 의미화 되고 있는가?
김형우의 작업은 우리로 하여금 바라보게 한다.
그것은 조각의 표면이 아니라,
그 표면을 통해 드러나는 오늘의 삶의 구조, 이미지의 정치학, 존재의 탈 신화다.
이 전시는 단지 형상을 전시하는 것이 아니라,
오늘이라는 시대를 입은 채 살아가는 우리 자신을 마주하게 한다.

The mythHyeongwooical figures of the past have returned.
But they no longer speak of myths.
Clothed in today’s brands, they reappear not as symbols of transcendence, but as signs saturated with consumerist meaning.
Their return is not the revival of the sublime, but an ironic testimony to the excess of signs.
Kim Hyungwoo overlays the classical form with the symbols of contemporary consumer culture.
He substitutes the weight of ‘form’ with the lightness of ‘image.’
This substitution is not mere parody,
but an aesthetic inquiry into the boundary between the real and the simulacrum.
Sculpture no longer represents ‘being’; it replicates the mechanisms of signs.
The hyperreal surface evokes a strange familiarity—the uncanny—by replicating reality with disconcerting precision.
Through this precision, we are forced to confront an unsettling truth
that images no longer reflect reality—they replace it.
Our perception of being is now mediated, filtered, and constructed through the logic of imagery.
In today’s world, identity is no longer essential.
As Michel Foucault suggests, identity is a technique of subjectification, a product of power.
We produce and consume images not merely to express ourselves, but to exist.
The old philosophical dictum “I think, therefore I am” has quietly shifted to a more tragic logic
“I am seen, therefore I am.”

It reflects back to us the image of ourselves—dressed in the fabric of our time.
