《From Breath to Flower》 - 숨에서 꽃으로
주종근, 김선두 2인전
주종근과 김선두, 두 작가는 낯선 환경에서 스스로의 뿌리를 세운 세대이다.
주종근은 미국 달라스에서, 김선두는 서울에서 각각 이방인으로서의 시간을 견뎌냈다.
그들의 작품에는 그 긴 호흡의 흔적이 있다.
주종근의 숨은 신앙의 명상으로, 어둠 속에서도 구원을 향한 생명의 리듬을 그린다.
김선두의 꽃은 욕망과 허무를 껴안은 깨달음의 형상으로, 빛과 어둠이 공존하는 삶의 절정을 노래한다.
〈숨에서 꽃으로〉는 두 작가의 호흡이 만나는 전시이다.
보이지 않던 내면의 숨이 꽃으로 피어나듯 삶의 어둠 속에서도 우리는 각자의 빛을 향해 나아간다.
그 길 위에서 예술은 살아 있음의 또 다른 숨결이다.
가을에서 겨울로 이어지는 길목에서 만나는 두 작가의 예술적 하모니가 기대된다.

《From Breath to Flower》
숨은 생명의 시작이다.
보이지 않지만 모든 생명은 그 고요한 숨결 위에 존재한다.
주종근과 김선두, 두 작가의 여정 또한 그 ‘숨’에서 출발했다.
주종근은 10대 말 부모님을 따라 서울에서 미국 텍사스주 달라스로 건너가 부친이 경영하던 Billboard Sign 회사에서 부친을 도와 간판 광고 그림을 그리다 늦게 예술의 길을 걸었다.
김선두는 전남 장흥의 시골에서 자라 아버지를 따라 서울로 올라와 오랜 방황 끝에 미술대학에 입학하여 작가의 길을 걸었다. 두 작가는 모두 자신이 태어난 공간을 떠나 낯선 곳에서 스스로의 뿌리를 내린 디아스포라 작가라는 공통점이 있다.
서울에서 달라스로, 장흥에서 서울로 이어진 이주의 시간 속에서, 그들은 타지에서 살아남기 위한 내면의 호흡을 배웠다. 그 숨은 단순한 생존의 리듬이 아니라, 삶을 창조하는 예술의
호흡이었다. 주종근의 숨은 신앙의 명상으로, 어둠 속에서도 구원을 향해 나아가는 영혼의 맥박이다. 김선두의 꽃은 그 숨이 세상으로 피어난 형상이다. 욕망과 허무, 절정과 소멸이 한순간에 피고 지는 찰나 속에서 그는 생명의 빛을 본다.

한쪽은 믿음의 숨으로, 한쪽은 깨달음의 꽃으로. 서로 다른 뿌리에서 자라난 두 생명이 결국 한 지점에서 만난다.

<<From Breath to Flower>>
Breath is the beginning of life.
Though invisible, every living being exists upon that silent breath. The artistic journeys of Chu Chong Keun and Kim Sun Doo also begin with that very breath.
In his late teens, Chu Chong Keun moved from Seoul to Dallas, Texas, following his parents. Working at his father’s Billboard Sign company, he painted commercial signboards before eventually finding his path as an artist. Kim Sun Doo, who grew up in the rural town of Jang heung, Jeonnam, moved to Seoul with his father and, after a long period of wandering, entered art school and began his life as an artist.
Both artists share the experience of diaspora—leaving their places of birth to take root in unfamiliar lands, shaping their identities through displacement.
From Seoul to Dallas, and from Jang heung to Seoul, they each learned the rhythm of inner breathing required to survive away from home. That breath, however, was not merely the rhythm of survival—it became the creative pulse of art and life. Chu Chong Keun’s breath is one of spiritual meditation, the heartbeat of a soul seeking salvation even in darkness. Kim Sun Doo’s flower is the visible bloom of that breath, where desire and emptiness, culmination and dissolution coexist in a fleeting moment—revealing the luminous essence of life itself.
〈From Breath to Flower〉 is where the two artists’ breaths converge.
one as a breath of faith, the other as a flower of enlightenment.
Though their roots differ, their creative life ultimately meets at the same point.
At the threshold between autumn and winter, their artistic harmony invites us to witness the quiet yet profound resonance of life’s breath becoming a flower.
